What it does
Study the historical Cockcroft–Gault estimate of adult creatinine clearance (CrCl). This is a creatinine-clearance estimate, not a modern eGFR calculation, and does not choose a medication dose.
The formula
CrCl = ((140 − age) × weight in kg) ÷ (72 × serum creatinine in mg/dL), then multiply by 0.85 if female.
Worked example
A 60-year-old man weighing 80 kg with a serum creatinine of 1.0 mg/dL: ((140 − 60) × 80) ÷ (72 × 1.0) = 6400 ÷ 72 = 88.9 mL/min.
Good to know
The calculation uses the weight you enter. Selection of actual, ideal or adjusted weight depends on the reference and clinical context. Use the weight convention supplied in your study question.
Study calculations only, not dosing recommendations. Real medication orders and administration require the appropriate clinical checks and facility protocol.
