What it does
Estimates body surface area, used for chemotherapy and other weight-and-height based dosing, by both common methods.
The formulas
Mosteller = √(height cm × weight kg ÷ 3600). Du Bois = 0.007184 × height^0.725 × weight^0.425.
Worked example
A patient 170 cm and 70 kg: Mosteller 1.82 m², Du Bois 1.81 m².
Good to know
The two methods agree closely for most adults; Mosteller is the easier one to do by hand.
